Pet Appreciation Week is an Excuse to Let Your Pet Know You Care

This year, Pet Appreciation Week is June 4-10. It’s a great excuse to show your pet how much you love them. No matter what type of pet you have, you can find a fun, creative way to celebrate them this week. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Schedule a Playdate

If your pet enjoys playing with others, schedule a playdate with his furry friends. You can also make a commitment to visit the dog park each day during Pet Appreciation Week. If you don’t have a dog or you have a pet that can’t go on walks or explore the outdoors, adjust your schedule so that you have a little more enrichment time or playtime than you usually do during the week. Get your pet a new toy or accessory that will encourage interaction, promote play, and provide enrichment and stimulation.

Give Him Extra Attention & Grooming

All pets love attention, and even if you have a pet that doesn’t groom (like a lizard or snake) you can show him some extra love this week. If you have a pet that does groom, give him some extra pets and brushes this week to keep his coat healthy and clean.

Give Him Treats or a Special Meal

Check with your veterinarian to find out what would be safe and healthy for you to give your pet as a special treat. You might give a cat or dog some lean meat or a piece of cheese. Your rabbit might enjoy carrot tops and oat groats, or your turtle might love getting some frozen blueberries and strawberries.

Schedule a Veterinary Checkup

The best way to care for your pet is to make sure he is safe, happy, and healthy year-round. Your pet should visit the veterinarian every year for a physical exam and check-up. Your veterinarian will assess your pet’s risk of disease and health problems, update his vaccinations, evaluate his diet and nutrition, and make sure that he’s at an appropriate weight.

Use Pet Appreciation Week as a reminder to schedule your annual veterinary visit.
