Health and Wellness Resolutions to Set for Your Pets in the New Year

As you create your own New Year’s resolutions for 2023, be sure to include some health and wellness resolutions for your pet! Creating resolutions for your pet will help you manage and coordinate his healthcare throughout the year. Here are some great health and wellness resolutions to set for your pet in the new year.

Eat Well and Get Enough Exercise

Just like humans, pets need the right diet and exercise routine in order to stay healthy and happy. If your pet’s diet is lacking or he isn’t getting enough exercise and attention, your pet may exhibit signs of illness, depression, anxiety, or destructive behavior. Check with your veterinarian about whether your pet’s diet is meeting his nutritional needs, and find out how much play time and exercise your pet should be getting per day.

Take Care of Teeth and Gums

Without the right dental care, your pet can be at risk of infections, tooth decay, dental abscesses, and tooth loss. Ask your veterinarian how often you should brush your pet’s teeth, and what the right tools and methods are. You can also ask for a dental care checkup during your regular veterinary visits.

Schedule Regular Veterinary Visits

Adult pets should get a routine veterinary checkup at least once per year. Senior pets should visit their veterinarian twice per year. If you notice signs or symptoms of illness or injury in your pet, schedule a visit with your veterinarian or take your pet to an emergency veterinary hospital as soon as possible. Be sure to be aware of the warning signs of a health emergency in pets so that you can act quickly.

Make sure that regular veterinary visits are a part of your pet’s New Year’s resolutions. If your pet hasn’t had a veterinary checkup in the last 12 months, schedule one in the new year.
